Echeveria shaviana is a fragile, velvety, evergreen succulent native to northern Mexico's Nuevo Leon mountain range.
Shaviana has short stems that are covered in rosettes of smooth, fleshy pale powder blue-gray leaves that radiate from the stem.
The edges of the leaves are ruffled, crinkled, frilly, and wavy, and they often have a pink tinge.
In USDA hardiness zones 9-11, the "growth season" for Echeveria shaviana is throughout the summer months, when it receives enough of light.
This ornamental species grows slowly, but plants can reach 8" in diameter over time.
The thin, delicate leaves distinguish shaviana from other Echeveria kinds, while the leaves and foliage on most other Echeveria varieties have a "chubby" appearance.
The plants bloom in midsummer, bringing up a 12" bloom spike rosette.
Pink flowers with yellow centers are grouped on one side of the flower stalk.
Plants like bright light but can tolerate some light shadow.
They do best with 6 hours in full sun per day.
Generally, full sun in the winter and some shade but bright light in the summer.
When plants receive more light, their leaves change color and shape.
When transferring plants from lower lighting conditions to full sun, do so gradually to avoid burning.
